Pronunciation is the number one thing my intermediate to advanced students request help with. My students often tell stories about how they are treated poorly by native English speakers because of their pronunciation. This in turn makes the students more self conscious and less adjusted to their lives here in the U.S. Therefore, I always incorporate pronunciation activities in to my lessons.
ESL Pronunciation Book Recommendation
- Focus On Pronunciation by Linda Lane
My favorite book (and my students) to use in the classroom for ESL pronunciation is the Focus on Pronunciation series 1-3 see below for links to the books.
Focus On Pronunciation 1
Focus On Pronunciation 2
Focus On Pronunciation 3
The Focus On Pronunciation books are extremely easy to use. I usually use these books as a warm up or a cool down in our classes. They especially work when I am teaching evenings and the students seem to be getting tired – for some reason these pronunciation activities always wake them up!
- Grammar Chants by Carolyn Graham
While these books are not specifically pronunciation books, they do help students with the rhythm and pronunciation of the English language.
